Summary

Cartoons have always been a huge inspiration to me. Animation helps to bring my imagination to life. Disney and Pixar influenced the person I am today. Films like Toy Story inspired me to not be ashamed of showing off my imagination, in fact I even made toys out of paper for my classmates. Ratatouille taught me that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, you can accomplish your dream. After watching Disney and Pixar films I discovered that I wanted to help make these inspiring fun stories too. Animation is the best way to bring your imagination to life for me, because you can relate and understand how a character acts through their body language, facial expressions, and interactions with the world around them. I plan to bring my dreams to life through animation and inspire the next generations in the way that Disney and Pixar did for me.

My animation style is over exaggerated. I took theatre for four years in high school and loved every minute of it. The lessons I learned from theatre are the ones I like to keep in mind when filming my own reference for my animations. For example when a character performs an action, I don’t want the audience to only understand how the character feels solely through facial expression, but also by the way the body reacts down to each individual finger having some kind of variation to it. I have always loved over exaggerated animation, for example how the characters move in the Hotel Transilvania films. I try to replicate that style while also keeping in mind the limitations a normal human body can perform, and I find a good middle ground of the two. When filming reference for an animation I always record more than one take until I feel that I have become the character I am trying to portray and when I feel like I am completely in the character's mind set, then that’s when I am satisfied with the reference. I am not bound to my reference either, I use it as a guideline for how I want the character to move, but I make certain changes to help make the movements pop more and better illustrate who this character is, and what’s their personality.
